The legendary cape where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet, where sailors say "it ends", and where winds and history dance: Knidos.
Approaching one of the most important port cities of the ancient era from the water, just like sailors thousands of years ago, is one of the most fascinating moments of Datca boat rental and Blue Cruise.
Here is what you need to know about this open-air museum at the very tip of the Datça Peninsula:
Knidos is the extreme point of the Datça Peninsula (Tekir Cape).
What's Special? This is geographically considered the place where the Aegean Sea ends and the Mediterranean begins. As you turn the cape with your boat, one side is the Aegean and the other is the Mediterranean. The character of the wind and current changes at that moment. Experiencing this geographical transition from the sea is priceless.
Knidos had two harbors. The place where boats dock and swim today is the ancient Commercial Harbor.
Experience: Since the harbor is protected by breakwater ruins, it is usually like a calm pool. When you dive with a snorkel, you can see ancient ceramic pieces, amphoras, and harbor stones at the bottom of the water. You literally swim over history.
Knidos was known as the most beautiful city of the ancient world because the Naked Aphrodite Statue made by the famous sculptor Praxiteles was here.
Ritual: After the boats anchor in the harbor, you go ashore. The Round Aphrodite Temple is visited, and then you walk towards the Deveboynu Lighthouse. Watching the sunset from here is the most iconic frame of the Datça holiday.
