The "postcard face" of Fethiye, and even Turkey, that wild beauty hidden between steep cliffs: Butterfly Valley.

It is the place where Limancepte.com guests ask "Is this place really like in the movies?" when they board via Fethiye yacht charter. Our answer is clear: "No, it is more impressive." This valley, where massive canyon walls of 350 meters meet the sea, is like a republic completely disconnected from the outside world.

Here is the realistic guide for those coming by sea about this iconic stop of the Oludeniz route:

1. How to Get to the Valley? (Vital Warning!)

Transportation to Butterfly Valley is where holidaymakers make the most mistakes.

  • By Sea (Only Safe Way): The most comfortable and safe way to descend to the valley is by boat. You can step on the beach with shuttle boats departing from Oludeniz beach or private boats you rent via Limancepte.
  • By Land (Dangerous Climb): There is a steep path descending from Faralya village. However, this is not a walking path, but a very dangerous cliff descent requiring professional mountaineering experience. Captain's Advice: Watch the view from above (Faralya) but never try to walk down. Come by sea.

2. Are There Really Butterflies?

The valley gets its name from more than 80 butterfly species living here, especially the "Jersey Tiger".
When to See? If you go in the heat and crowd of July-August, you won't see butterflies. They love silence. To see them, you need to walk towards the waterfall deep in the valley and prefer April-May or September-October.

3. Inside the Valley: Waterfall and Hippie Spirit

When you get off the boat and step on the beach, a completely different world welcomes you.
Facilities: Concrete structures are forbidden. There are only wooden shacks, tents, and a rustic business. Electricity is limited. A complete "Backpacker" atmosphere prevails.
Waterfall Walk: You reach a small waterfall with a 20-30 minute walk from behind the beach into the valley.

4. How is the Sea?

The sea of Butterfly Valley is similar to Oludeniz but gets deep faster. The ground is pebbly and stony. The water is incredibly clear and turquoise.
Note: Due to the canyon structure, the valley remains in the shade in the afternoon. It is best to go in the morning hours to enjoy the sun.

5. Tips for Those Coming by Boat

Large tour boats usually cannot get very close to the shore or stop at certain times. If you came with a private boat, your captain can dock you at the beach at a time when there is no crowd.

Private Boat Advantage Instead of going ashore, you can anchor offshore against those majestic cliffs of the valley and enjoy the view from the boat. This is one of the best locations in the world to fly a drone.

Butterfly Valley FAQ

  • Is there an entrance fee to the beach?
Entering the bay by boat is free. However, if you want to walk into the valley (to the waterfall), a small entrance fee may be requested for maintenance.
  • Can I camp?
Yes. You can stay in your own tent or the facility's tents. But you must use the designated camping area.
  • Is there phone signal?
It usually works on the beach part, but the signal weakens as you move towards the waterfall.
  • Is there food and drink?
Yes, there is a cafeteria/kiosk serving toast, pancakes, and drinks in the valley.
