Yassica Islands (Gocek): A Natural Pool in the Middle of the Sea

The undeniably most "photogenic" stop of the Gocek 12 Islands tour, resembling the Maldives when viewed from the air: Yassıca Islands.

This is the favorite place of Gocek yacht charter guests, especially families with children. Because this is not a single island, but a group of tiny islets connected by shallow waters in the middle of the sea, forming almost a "natural swimming pool".

Here is what you need to know about this most fun and shallowest stop of Gocek:

1. Why is it Called "Yassıca" (Flat)?

The islands do not rise much above the sea, they have a flat and low appearance.
Geography: It consists of 5-6 large and small islets. The parts of these islands facing each other are so shallow that the color of the sea turns from dark blue to phosphorescent turquoise.
Natural Pool: The sheltered lagoon formed by the islands creates a waveless and calm pool effect. It is the safest point in Gocek for non-swimmers and children.

2. Walking Experience Between Islands

The biggest fun of Yassıca Islands is walking from one island to another. When you enter the sea from the shore of the main island, the water comes up to your waist and you can walk to the small islet opposite without swimming. This experience gives the feeling of walking on water.

3. Favorite of Families with Children

Most of Gocek's bays are deep and rocky. However, Yassıca Islands are an exception. There is a tiny, natural sandy beach on the shore of the island and the bottom of the water is mostly sand. It is a perfect environment for children to play on the shore and get used to the sea.

4. Are There Facilities? Is It Deserted?

There are no hotels or permanent structures on Yassıca Islands.
Floating Cafes: During the summer season, you can see small "floating buffets" or boats docking at the island's shore during the day. You can buy fresh juice or Turkish pancakes (Gözleme). When evening comes, they leave too.
Devil's Island: The island at the tip of the Yassıca group is called "Devil's Island" among the locals; it attracts adventurers with its desolation and rocky structure.

5. When to Go? (Crowd Warning)

This is the main stop of the 12 Islands tour. Between 11:30 and 14:30, this place witnesses "sea traffic", and the water gets crowded.

Limancepte Recommendation If you have rented a private boat, ask your captain to bring you here as the first stop in the morning (09:30) or the last stop in the evening (16:30). The pleasure of that natural pool is completely different after everyone has left.

Yassıca Islands FAQ

No. Yassıca Islands are in the middle of the sea. Accessible only by boat.
  • Can I camp?
The islands are very small, shade is scarce, and there is no water source/toilet. Therefore, camping is very difficult and not preferred.
  • Can we stay overnight?
It is a great overnight spot for private boats. It does not receive wind, anchoring is easy.
  • Are there water sports?
Yes. Water sports boats (Ringo, Banana, Jetski) serve the region during peak hours.
