Blue Cave (Kaş/Kalkan): Location & How to Get There

The Blue Cave is a visual feast offered by nature, hosting the most fascinating light show of the Turkish coasts. Although the name "Blue Cave" appears in several places in Turkey, the "Real Blue Cave" is that massive geological formation located between Kaş and Kalkan, close to Kaputaş Beach.

This cave, which Limancepte.com guests describe as "It's like a lamp is burning underwater" when they swim inside, is now the most exciting stop of Kas boat charter and Kalkan boat rental routes.

Here is everything you need to know about this mysterious stop:

1. Where is the Blue Cave and Why So Blue?

The cave is 18 km from Kas and 6 km from Kalkan, right near Kaputaş Beach.
The Secret of Blue: Although the entrance seems narrow from the outside, sunlight coming from under the water reflects off the bottom structure and emits a phosphorescent, neon blue light inside the cave. Thanks to this optical refraction, you feel like you are in a sci-fi movie scene while swimming.

2. How to Get There? (Sea Access Only)

This place has remained pristine because it is "inaccessible" by land. There are no roads or paths descending from the cliffs.
Important Note: Since the cave entrance is low, large gulets cannot enter. The boat stops in front of the entrance; you enter by swimming or with a small dinghy. Small speedboats can enter with careful maneuvering.

3. Swimming Inside the Cave

This experience involves some adrenaline. While swimming from the mouth of the cave inwards, the water darkens for a moment, then that famous blue beam of light welcomes you. Although it looks small from the outside, the inside is huge (Length: 50m, Width: 40m).

4. Former Home of Mediterranean Monk Seals

The Blue Cave was a nesting area for the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seals (Monachus monachus) in the past. Although seals rarely visit here today due to heavy human traffic, you still have a chance to encounter one on your lucky day.

Start from Kas or Kalkan?

This decision determines the time you will spend on the route:

Feature From Kalkan From Kas
Distance Very Close (6 km) Further (18 km)
Duration 15-20 Minutes 45 Mins - 1 Hour
Advantage Saves time, fast access Long cruise & extra bays
Limancepte Expert Suggestion If you want to catch the calmest hour of the morning in the cave and avoid the crowd, renting a boat from Kalkan saves you time.

Note: Do not confuse it with Ölüdeniz Blue Cave. If you are looking for a massive "cave experience", the address is definitely the Kaş/Kalkan side.
